Code Master

Overview

FAQ

Wouldn’t it be wonderful for your career to attend an eight-week summer school program at the Stanford University or have the financial support for a similar development plan? If you can’t wait to know more as you learn, to generate new ideas as you know and to share every new idea with those around you, we can say that you are not too far from this dream. Because this is the common feature of sharp minds and the Code Master is an event organized just for these minds! If you believe in your engineering skills, join our event and have the opportunity to show your skills to hundreds or even thousands of people with the same passion as you!

We aim to recognize and support the gifted engineers of the future through the Code Master!
Among our young friends studying at universities all over Turkey, there are talents, more valuable than the other, with minds that will make a difference in the field of engineering. Supporting the development of such valuable talents and helping them reach the position they deserve are among our main duties, and one of the steps we took towards this goal is the Code Master event! So, are you ready to be this year’s Code Master? Join now and prove your skills to everyone, including yourself!
Code Master invites engineer candidates to a big arena to compete with their skills.
Organized once a year, the Code Master event is held for the university students of the computer, software and electrical/electronic engineering departments. All of these student friends who are studying in their second, third and fourth years at the aforementioned departments can apply to our event. As a result of this event, which measures the coding and solution development skills of the participants, the students who are ranked will receive various awards.

Excitement piles up in each stage of the Code Master!

Application and competition dates for our Code Master event is determined every year in accordance with the calendars of the university students, taking into account the annual exam schedules. Our event consists of two stages in total. The first of these stages takes place on the campus of each university and under the supervision of our relevant teammates. Students who are successful at the end of the competition are invited to our OBSS Istanbul office to participate in the second stage. After the successful completion of this stage, which is the last step of our event, the most successful participant is chosen as the Code Master of the year.

First stage: The best ones are determined in the algorithm solutions!

In the first stage of the Code Master, we aim to measure the skills of the participants, in matters of producing a comprehensive solution to the time and operational complex and developing a code in accordance with the accepted standards, by taking into consideration the extreme possibilities and their skills to solve complex algorithms and to divide the problem into manageable sub-problems. In order to observe all these criteria, we direct an algorithm question, which we have prepared beforehand, to students during the competition. And we expect them to solve this question within a certain time.

Code Master makes you feel the success at every stage!
At the end of the first stage, the solutions submitted by the students are examined in detail, by our OBSS technical team, and the five most successful students from each university are determined. These five friends are entitled to participate in the second stage of the Code Master event and also at the same time become the owner of cash prizes that were determined for the first stage.
The one who completes the given tasks in the best way and in the limited time during the second stage wins!
In the second phase of the Code Master, we aim to see the success levels of the participants in different competency clusters such as adaptation, analysis, solution generation, problem detection, impact analysis implementation, solution design/execution, analytical thinking and algorithm development. We relay to the participants, during the competition, the various tasks that we determined to be in accordance with this and are at different difficulty levels. And we expect them to complete all the tasks within the specified time.
Code Master of the Year wins the grand prize!
At the end of the second phase of the Code Master, the results achieved by the students, who succeeded in completing the task within the specified time, are put through a comprehensive evaluation. Our friend, who reaches the most accurate and successful solutions among the participants, is chosen as the Code Master of the year. And this friend, the Code Master, is eligible to attend an eight-week summer school training at the Stanford University located in California, USA!

It is possible to participate in the Code Master from anywhere in Turkey!

Those who want to participate in our Code Master event, you can apply though our website on the application dates. When the process is completed, all the applications are evaluated, one by one, by our Human Resource team and the applications of the candidates who meet the appropriate conditions are approved.

For the safety of our team and participants, we took some precautions as a part of our Code Master event!
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, which was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization as of March 11, 2020, we made some changes in our Code Master event. In order to provide the safest conditions to our student friends and the team, we started to organize our event entirely on the online platform. And at the same time, we changed our summer school education award at the Stanford University to a monetary award of $100,000, again in accordance with the current conditions.

FAQ

Code Master is an inter-university coding event consisting of two (2) stages.

You can apply to Code Master by clicking the “apply” button and entering your information.

2nd, 3rd and 4th year students (sophomore, junior and senior) who are continuing their educations in computer, software, electrical-electronic engineering departments of all the universities in Turkey can participate in the event.

Code Master will take place, online, on March 5, 2022.

The event consists of two (2) stages. Both stages of the event will be completed on the same day.

At the first stage, an algorithm question will be asked to the participants and they will be expected to provide a solution, to the problem given in the question, within the specified time period. The scope of the problem and the complexity of the algorithm are established in order to measure the knowledge of the participants in solving, dividing the problem into manageable sub-problems, considering the time and process complexity, generating a comprehensive solution by considering extreme possibilities/scenarios, and developing codes suitable with accepted standards. Within the second stage, the participants will be presented with tasks at various difficulty levels in order to analyze different competency sets such as adaptation-analysis-solution generation, generation-solution design/implementation of problem detection-impact analysis, and analytical thinking-algorithm development. Tasks with different weights will be requested to be completed, within the time period indicated in the task specifics, in a way that they meet the criteria to be specified.

The people who will be participating in the second stage of the event are determined in line with their achievements in the first stage. It is not possible to participate in the second stage without participating in the first stage.

One of the preferred languages from the Java, C#, C, C++, JavaScript, Python languages can be used within the scope of the event.

As a result of the first stage of the event: competitors, a maximum of five students from each university, who met the success criteria will receive the first stage awards listed below.

1st place: 3,000 TL (Turkish Liras)
2nd place: 2,000 TL
3rd place: 1,000 TL
4th place: 500 TL
5th place: 500 TL

*A minimum of ten participants, from each school, must be reached in order to carry out school-based assessments. In the event that the quota of ten students could not be reached on a school basis, the relevant participants will be evaluated in a common pool. In line with the evaluation, the students in the first 15% bracket of the pool will receive the first stage awards.

The winner for the second stage, which will be held among the students who were successful in the first stage, will be the owner of the 100,000 TL grand prize and the Code Master of the year title.

Both stages of the event will take place on March 5, 2022. The winners of the first and second stage will be determined on the same day.

Both stages of the event take place with individual participation.

Our mentor team will support you during the event, when necessary. The questions asked to the mentor should not be in a way that they contribute to the solution of the given problem or create a disadvantageous situation among other competitors.

In addition to our mentor team, our support team will also be available throughout the event. In case that any event-originated problems arise, it will be made possible to convey these problems, in writing and verbally, and an action will be carried out in order to solve the problem as soon as possible.
